Who are Social Cinema Bromley?
Well, glad you asked. We set ourselves up due to a lack of choice in cinema in Bromley, and we also recognised the power of cinema and film to bring people together and make connections with people. We see film as more than just something that is projected onto a screen - it is so much more than that. All from the comfort of one chair, you can be transported round the world, to the deepest oceans, the highest peaks...explore new fantastical worlds and experience more than you can ever imagine. And you can do all of that with like minded people at venues round Bromley.
But who are you really?
Well ok then - SCB is headed up by Rob Carrick and Kevin Gooding. Rob dreamt up this little idea and does all the donkey work with the website, and ideas and enacting our vision. Kevin has two much more important roles - our projectionist and our treasurer. We live in the area and share a passion to bring people together through film.
Where do you show films?
We currently have two venues we use in Bromley - Wickham Theatre Centre and Southey Brewing Co in Penge. Take a look at Our Partners page on this site for more info.
Do you sell drinks and snacks?
No, we dont - but our venues do and we strongly urge you to support these two local businesses. We choose our venues based on the fact that people can socialise before and after a film. And as for snacks - well it has been known for us to throw in a few treats for free from time to time :-)
Where can I buy tickets?
All of our programming is here on this website, and tickets can be bought online or on the door on the night. Be careful though, as we do tend to sell out so the best way to secure your ticket is to buy here online. If you do want to pay on the night, we accept cash and credit cards (not AMEX).
How much are tickets?
We try to keep them as cheap as possible, and never more than £10 - and cheaper if we can manage it
Do you make money from this?
No - not a penny. All of the money we take in ticket sales or raffles goes into helping us put films on and keep our prices low. We also seek ways to give back to local community groups - so every ticket you buy from us helps people twice - through the film we put on, and then through the donations we make to other groups. How fabulous is that?
What sort of films do you show?
We try to show a wide range as possible and definitely not the same as you get in the big mainstream cinemas in Bromley. So far we have shown Alfie, The Holly and the Ivy, Snatch, The Amityville Horror and Chocolat...with more to come. Fancy asking us to show your favourite? Let us know and we will see what we can do.
You sound amazing. Can we volunteer?
Oh absolutely. We need help. Go to our Volunteers Page and sign up, or drop us an e mail and tell us you want to help.
